The VMSC Advanced EMT Certification Course is an in-depth program designed to give students the knowledge, tools, and field experience necessary to excel at the intermediate level of EMS practice. All required textbooks, workbooks, and course materials are included. Students will also receive an official VMSC AEMT uniform shirt, which must be worn during skills labs and clinical assignments.
Throughout the program, students train with advanced equipment and simulation resources, such as IV/IO access tools, cardiac monitors, medication administration kits, and advanced airway devices. Clinical and field rotations are a core component of the course, providing ride-along and hospital experiences alongside seasoned VMSC EMS providers.
The Advanced EMT certification course is a 14-week accelerated course + 4-week capstone with classes meeting twice a week.
Upon successful completion of the VMSC Advanced EMT Certification Course, students will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Advanced EMT exam. Passing this exam qualifies individuals to apply for Pennsylvania State AEMT Certification, authorizing them to practice at the Advanced EMT level. This nationally recognized credential may also be transferable to other states, depending on individual state requirements.
To enroll in the VMSC Advanced EMT Certification Course, applicants must hold a current Pennsylvania EMT certification and be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program. Candidates must also provide a valid photo ID, and may be required to complete a background check, health screening, and attend a mandatory orientation prior to beginning the course.
